In the News: Bolinas bands together / Community finds the dough to convert former bakery into affordable housing (SF Gate)

“The purchase and renovation of a building that once housed a bakery was completed in less than three months. It is hailed by many as a model for other communities.

The purchase of the 126-year-old Gibson House, the site of the now-defunct Bolinas Bay Bakery, was completed in November. Instead of going through the more traditional grant process, the $675,000 sale to the Bolinas Community Land Trust involved a $405,000 bank loan, a $275,000 loan from Marin County that is expected to be converted into a grant, and numerous donations from the community for operating costs, insurance and construction.

The Gibson House project is expected to house at least 10 people who meet the requirements of being established local residents, low income and employed.”
